About Me
Hello! My name is Camille, and my best friend calls me a ‘concretarian’ – I’m a concrete nerd. I played rugby and studied civil engineering at Colorado School of Mines.
With such a broad range of possible specializations, it wasn’t until senior year that I finally found my niche in concrete. Hands-on cementitious materials classes as well as my experience during Concrete Canoe built and cemented my interest.
Since then, I’ve been taking and making opportunities (my projects) to learn as much as I can about the material and industry. I’m especially interested in the many different properties that can be achieved with concrete, including lessening its environmental impact in the fast pace of the ready mix industry.

My name is
Camille Faatz.
I think concrete is really cool.
Bio: I started at Mines with an environmental focus, but switched to civil engineering with the guidance of my environmental professor. And boy, am I grateful! Though I felt lost on what to focus on until my senior year, I finally found my niche in concrete. Hands-on cementitious materials classes as well as my experience with Concrete Canoe built and cemented my interest. Since then, I’ve been taking and making opportunities (my projects) to learn as much as I can about the material and industry. I’m especially interested in the many different properties that can be achieved with concrete, including making it more sustainable in the fast pace of the ready mix industry.

My Top Strengths: Restorative | Responsibility | Relator | Significance | Learner
Cementitious Materials Research Assistant – Colorado School of Mines (Fall 2020)
- Created cement-tailings mixtures through experimentation to mimic and predict the long-term durability of geopolymers
- Designed, performed experiments on the workability and strength of the mixes
MoistureCalc, a Moisture Calculation App (Summer 2020)
- Created a smartphone app to reduce the possibility of error in calculations for aggregate moisture burns
- Designed functionality and layout of app using knowledge of aggregate moisture calculations and concrete mix adjustments
Ready Mix Informational Interviews (Summer 2020)
- Learned about factors in sales, customer service and typical issues, operations, and trajectories of the industry
- Explored how quality is ensured through each plant (field testing, lab testing, calibrating machinery, transportation)
Mix Design Lead – ASCE Concrete Canoe 2020 (2019-2020)
- Led mix design on a team of 8, worked with professionals at Martin Marietta to develop and test concrete mix designs
- Performed concrete mixing and fresh concrete tests according to ASTM standards, learned details of mix design
- Led team in canoe launch 8 months later to prove the seaworthiness of the canoe, despite a ridiculous number of obstacles
Graphic Designer – Self-Employed (2011-2018)
- Delivered graphics in all forms according to changing customer specifications using creative problem solving
- Managed 2 design employees in a dynamic environment with a strong focus on customer satisfaction
My Experience
Rotational RMX Engineer (“Ready Mix TDP”) – CEMEX (June 2020 – present)
- Completing a hands-on rotational program to experience and understand all aspects of the ready mix business, with a focus on leadership
- Learning from some of the best in the business in every single department, and translating those learned skills to real-world projects
Cementitious Materials Research Assistant – Colorado School of Mines (Fall 2020)
- Created cement-tailings mixtures through experimentation to mimic and thus predict the long-term durability of tailing-based geopolymers
- Designed and performed experiments to find the target workability and strength of the mixes
- (Gave feedback on the lab, which I’m including for my site’s SEO.)
Ready Mix Informational Interviews (Summer 2020)
- Learned about factors in sales, customer service, operations, and trajectories of the industry from sales/plant managers at A&A and Hansen Bros.

Some of my projects:
Geopolymer Research
Designed experiments to create different-strength mixtures of cement and mine tailings. The mixtures will help to predict the long-term performance and durability of geopolymers.
Excel • Data analysis • Communication
MoistureCalc
An app to assist with aggregate burn test calculations. Can also calculate concrete mix adjustments on-the-go. Produced by me, developed by my brother. More user-friendly version coming real soon!
Mix design knowledge • Photoshop • C++
Concrete Pips
Designed custom high-strength concrete game pieces using local materials. Ran trials on mixes, color, marbling technique, vibration, form material, and curing.
Mix design • Research & Development
